We are truly honored to collaborate and participate in the creation of this website.

In 1925, at 34 Via Asinari di Bernezzo, the Church of Our Lady of Divine Providence had been inaugurated. The Parella community, both Christian and civil, is about to commemorate these 100 years of presence in the area with a series of events open to all. First of all, it has inaugurated an ad hoc website(100anni.parrocchiadivinaprovvidenza.it), where the parish posts memories, photographs and testimonies experienced in the church. Those who want to add their own can send materials to the parish by appointment to 011.740.272 or by sending an e-mail to 100annimdp@gmail.com. Next spring, then, concerts and pilgrimages will start, running through the summer. The highlight is set for May 17, when a solemn Eucharistic celebration will be held with Cardinal Archbishop Roberto Repole.
“We want to intercept the greatest number of families in a neighborhood where different sensibilities coexist,” explains the parish priest, Fr. Sergio Baravalle, who has led Divine Providence Parish for 18 years.
If back then it was inhabited mostly by peasant families, today Parella is a “popular and multicultural neighborhood,” adds the priest. “We have a robust representation of Romanian, Peruvian and Moroccan citizens. There are about 13,000 parishioners of Divine Providence today, to which four other churches have been added in the neighborhood over time. The shrine that stands today on Via Asinari di Bernezzo is not the one of a century ago. In 1942, during World War II, it had in fact been razed to the ground by two bombings. The church had been rebuilt in 1957 by Monsignor Michele Enriore, who had meanwhile become pastor of Divine Providence. In these 100 years there were “only” four priests who took turns leading the church. Don Plassa was followed by Monsignor Enriore himself (for 42 years). Fr. Baravalle came
into office in 2007, following Fr. Enrico Molgora. To reach out to the weak in the neighborhood, the parish collaborates with a myriad of associations devoted to social work, including San Vincenzo. “We help those who struggle to shoulder the cost of a bill and those who ask to learn our language,” says Fr. Sergio, “We also link up with social services to come to the aid of the most fragile families. –
